Arsenal on Alert as Real Madrid Makes Defender Available

Arsenal have been put on high alert after Spanish giants Real Madrid informed left-back Ferland Mendy that he is free to leave the club this summer as per Mirror.

The announcement has thrown the 27-year-old’s future into uncertainty and Arsenal are poised to make a move for the defender, who could cost around £17.5million.

Mendy’s time at the Bernabeu appears to be drawing to an end after a loss of form and injury troubles have seen him fall down the pecking order under manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Frenchman has started just 14 La Liga games this season, with long-serving Nacho Fernandez often preferred at left-back and former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger also providing cover in that position.

With Mendy’s contract running until 2025, Real Madrid have decided to cut their losses on the player and have informed his representatives that they will not offer an extension.

Mendy is now on the lookout for a new club, preferably in the Champions League, and north London rivals Arsenal have emerged as front-runners for his signature.

The Gunners already boast Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney at left-back but Tierney’s future remains unclear due to his lack of playing time this season.

The capture of Mendy would provide extra depth and competition for places in Mikel Arteta’s squad. The Arsenal manager has admitted that preparations for the upcoming transfer window are already underway, with technical director Edu praising the club’s decisiveness in the January window.

Arteta has remained tight-lipped on speculation linking other Arsenal players with moves away, recently stating his happiness with midfielder Granit Xhaka amid rumours of interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

The acquisition of Mendy would continue the Gunners’ shrewd work in the transfer market and further strengthen their grip on fourth place in the Premier League.
