Academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia comes to the rescue to seal a huge win for Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey against Leganes. Once again, Real Madrid had to rely on a moment of magic for this important win, but it’s done. All is well that ends well, as the saying goes.

The 20 year old sealed the important win on the 93rd minute after a sluggish performance against Leganes in the Copa del Rey, scoring from a close range shot.

After a less than dominating start where we saw Andriy Lunin called into action early, Madrid settled down. Luka Modric found the opener 18 minutes in, netting past the goalkeeper after a well-crafted counter-attack to score his second goal of the season.

Endrick Scores, But the host were level up

Wonder boy Endrick added another in a rare start, turning home after ghosting in unmarked at the far post. Absolute signature.

Leganes pulled one back shortly before the half time, when Juan Cruz slotted a penalty into the bottom corner post a Madrid handball in the box. The hosts completed the comeback with 30 minutes of regular time remaining, as Cruz’s deflected shot trickled into the back of the net.

Vinicius in action, but couldn’t feature on the scoreline

Vinicius put up his usual buzz on the left wing, all creativity and movement. But the Brazillian couldn’t provide a crucial cutting edge in the final third. In the end it was a goal from the academy grad that sealed the win.

Brahim Diaz cut onto his left before floating a near-post cross – which Garcia met with a well-timed header for a last-ditch winner.

This was not pretty by any means; it seemed for some time that Los Blancos would need extra time or even face the embarrassment of elimination. Instead, they were saved by a kid. Their cup dream lives on.
