According to recent reports coming out of Spain, Real Madrid have identified Dani Olmo, the RB Leipzig attacker, as a possible replacement for Marco Asensio should the Spaniard leave the Bernabeu this summer.
Asensio’s current contract with Los Blancos expires at the end of June and he recently admitted that he was unsure whether he’d sign an extension.
There is rumored interest in the 27-year-old from Aston Villa and other Premier League clubs monitoring the situation.
In preparation for Asensio’s potential departure, Real Madrid have reportedly singled out Olmo as someone they’re interested in bringing to the Spanish capital, as per AS.
Like Asensio, Olmo’s deal with his current club, RB Leipzig, ends in 2024 and there has been speculation he could move on, with links to Manchester United and Barcelona.
The versatile Olmo has bagged 5 goals and 9 assists in 28 games for Leipzig this season. According to reports, Leipzig don’t want Olmo going into the final year of his contract so will sell him this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
Leipzig have apparently offered Olmo an improved contract to become one of their highest earners but he seems keen for a new challenge from 2023-24.
Real Madrid eyes Dani Olmo as Marco Asensio’s potential replacement
Leipzig would supposedly be willing to sell Olmo for around €30 million, which should catch the eye of top clubs around Europe.
He joined Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in 2020, scoring 21 goals and providing 27 assists in 120 games.
Though injury has limited him this season, he has been fit since March, featuring in Leipzig’s last 8 league matches.
Olmo is also important for Spain, earning 30 caps and scoring 6 times, including 4 starts at the World Cup. He also scored in Spain’s 3-0 win over Norway in Euro 2024 qualifying last March.
Olmo’s versatility, able to play across the attack, makes him an attractive option for many clubs.
