The managerial hotseat at Real Madrid is heating up ahead of the summer transfer window, as doubts swirl around Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the helm of Los Blancos.
The Italian gaffer has come up short against Barcelona in La Liga and the Supercopa de España, though Madrid remain in the hunt for Champions League and Copa del Rey glory.
Despite the silverware still up for grabs, club president Florentino Perez may opt to overhaul the squad and bring in a fresh face to usher in a new era at the Bernabeu. There are a few enticing options on the table for Perez to mull over.
Among the names in the frame are Mauricio Pochettino, club legends Xabi Alonso and Raul, Julian Nagelsmann, and Zinedine Zidane.
While all have been linked to the club in some capacity before, none come as close as Zidane. The French maestro etched his name into Madrid folklore, both as a player and manager.
During Zidane’s previous reign, Madrid lifted an unprecedented three Champions League titles in a row and two Liga crowns over four seasons across two separate spells.
According to reports from Spanish outlet MadridXtra, Zidane is keen on a return to the Bernabeu, if Perez comes calling.
Zidane left Madrid in 2021 after reportedly falling out with Perez and the board. He has remained out of work since, despite rumors of the France job and PSG post coming his way.
Though Ancelotti’s future hangs in the balance, writing him off completely would be premature, especially with Los Blancos well in the mix for Champions League glory alongside Manchester City.
Zinedine Zidane in Talks with Real Madrid as PSG Looks for New Manager
Paris Saint-Germain may enter the market for a new gaffer this summer after Christophe Galtier’s demise in the Champions League and Coupe de France.
Several managers have been tipped to take the reins in Paris, including former Real Madrid boss Zidane.
However, Foot Mercato reported on Thursday that the La Liga giants are poised to scupper any hopes of Zidane heading to the Parc des Princes.
The French outlet claims Zidane has opened talks with Real Madrid about possibly succeeding Ancelotti should he depart in the summer.
Ancelotti has been linked with the Brazil job, perhaps explaining why Los Blancos have approached Zidane.
Zidane is said to be on PSG’s radar if they axe Galtier, but if the Frenchman favors a reunion with Real Madrid, the Ligue 1 champions will have to explore other options. These may include AS Roma’s Jose Mourinho.
