Real Madrid targetting Juanlu Sanchez

Real Madrid Seek Long-Term Successor for Dani Carvajal

Real Madrid are eyeing Sevilla’s rising star, 20-year-old right-back Juanlu Sanchez, as the potential heir to their veteran defender Dani Carvajal. However, the La Liga giants are playing the long game, opting to monitor Juanlu’s progress rather than rush into a deal according to Estadio Deportivo.

Los Blancos intend to keep Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez as their main right-back options for the upcoming season, reassessing their needs in the summer of 2025. By then, Juanlu’s Sevilla contract will have just a year remaining, potentially strengthening Real Madrid’s bargaining position.

An immediate transfer would mean paying Juanlu’s release clause, currently €15 million but set to increase to €20 million with only three more senior appearances for Sevilla. Real Madrid, shrewd as ever in the transfer market, seem content to bide their time.

The interest in Juanlu reflects Real’s forward-thinking approach to squad building. The injury-prone Carvajal, a club legend, has missed a significant number of games in recent years. This has led to greater reliance on Vazquez, a makeshift fullback, and Nacho, primarily a centre-back.

Juanlu, a product of Sevilla’s renowned academy, debuted for their first team in 2021 and has shown promise in over 30 senior appearances. A loan spell at Mirandes last season further solidified his development. Comfortable both in attack and defence, Juanlu possesses the pace, dribbling skills, and tactical awareness to flourish at a club like Real Madrid.

This potential move aligns with Real Madrid’s recent emphasis on securing top young talent. Their acquisition of left-back Fran Garcia last summer shows a commitment to building a foundation for the future. With Juanlu potentially joining in 2025, Real could solidify their fullback positions for years to come.

Real Madrid’s patience often pays off in the transfer market. Delaying a move for Juanlu Sanchez allows him to continue developing at Sevilla, potentially even increasing his value. For now, Juanlu’s focus will be on securing a starting role at Sevilla, but the prospect of a future at the Bernabeu will undoubtedly serve as strong motivation.
